School of Mathematics and Systems Science
Founded in 1956, the School of Mathematics and Systems Science was, formerly known as the Department of Mathematics. In 1992, it was renamed the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, and in April 2003, it was renamed the School of Mathematics and Systems Science. The school now has two undergraduate programs in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Data Science and Big Data Technology, and three master programs in Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Application Technology. Among them, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics program is a first-class undergraduate program in the province and a pillar program of Shenyang Normal University (SNU).
At present, there are 1007 undergraduates who are to obtain Bachelors of Science and Bachelors of Engineering, and 45 graduates who are to obtain Masters of Science and Masters of Engineering after graduation. The students are from more than 10 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across the country.
The school now has 43 faculty members. Among them, 28 have a doctorate, 26 have senior professional titles, 4 have overseas study experience.
The school currently has two undergraduate programs. Mathematics and Applied Mathematics program is required to be accomplished within 4 years with a total of 155 credits. Its main modules include Mathematical Analysis, Advanced Algebra, Analytic Geometry, Probability and Statistics, Ordinary Differential Equation, etc. Data Science and Big Data Technology program is required to be accomplished within 4 years with a total of 162 credits. Its core modules include Hadoop Big Data Development Technology, Algorithms Analysis and Design, Operating System Principles, Data Mining, Big Data Analysis, etc.
The postgraduate program has three orientations: Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Application Technology. The duration of study is 3 years. Students are required to take 8 degree modules such as Algebra, Functional Analysis, Topology, Advanced Statistics, Advanced Probability Theory, Multivariate Statistical Analysis etc., and 6 non-degree modules such as Professional Foreign Language, Academic Paper Writing, and Literature Reading etc.
In the past five years, the faculty members have published 48 papers in Chinese Social Science Citation Index(CSSCI), Science Citation Index(SCI) and other authoritative academic journals, and 15 monographs. At present, the school has five provincial platforms, including Liaoning Provincial Key Laboratory of Knowledge Service and Big Data Application, Liaoning Provincial College of Big Data Industry, Liaoning Institute of Application Technology for Smart Agriculture and Digital Countryside, Liaoning Provincial College Students’ Big Data Off-campus Practice Education Base, and Liaoning Provincial Big Data Industry School-Enterprise Alliance.
In recent years, the school has sent teachers and students to the United States, Japan, Singapore and other places to study, and has reached cooperation intention with Saxento University in the United States and Friendship University in Russia on student visiting, study abroad and graduate joint training.
