Master of Education Graduate School
I. History and Development
Founded in March 2010, the Master of Education Graduate School (MEGS) of Shenyang Normal University (SNU), is the only fully independent college organization that integrates the functions of administrative management and professional training in China. It coordinates and manages the training of master’s of education graduates across the whole university. In 2010, as the only institution in North-east China, SNU was selected as a pilot unit for the National Comprehensive Reform of Master’s Education. In 2013, the MEGS accepted the pilot project result assessment by the Ministry of Education, and was graded as Excellence, along with Beijing Normal University, East China Normal University and Tianjin Normal University.
In the 2018 National Full-time Master’s of Education Qualification Assessment, SNU was praised by experts as “a flag of national masters of education training”. The school consists of 9 professional teaching departments, including Preschool and Primary Education, Chinese, English, Comprehensive Education, Education Management, Modern Educational Technology, Physical Education, Fine Arts, Science and Technology. In the 8 professional fields of preschool education, primary education, educational management, mental health education, modern educational technology, vocational and technical education, science and technology, subject teaching (including Chinese, mathematics, English, ideological and political science, physics, chemistry, biology, physical education, fine arts, music, etc.), the school enlists full-time and part-time candidate masters of education.
There are 129 theoretical instructors and 160 practical instructors for masters of education. The school consists of the Teaching Affairs Department, Student Affairs Department, Quality Control Department, Academic Degree Office, Party and Administration Office and other departments.
II. Faculty and Students
As of December 2022, 468 full-time students and 331 part-time students were enrolled in MEGS, and students can graduate with a master’s in education. The students come from 20 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across the country.
There are 8 faculty members in the MEGS, 3 of whom have doctorates, 4 have senior professional titles, 2 have overseas study experience. One faculty member received the Special Government Allowances from the State Council. As a Hundred-level talent confirmed by the “New Century One Hundred-One Thousand-Ten Thousand Talent Project” of Liaoning Province, this faculty member is listed among Liaoning Province Outstanding Talents Support Plan. He is also the winner of Shenyang May Day Labour Medal and enjoys the honour of Shenyang Model Worker.

Master of Education graduate students are required to study for 3 years with a minimum of 39 full-time credits and 36 part-time credits.
IV. Academic Research
As of December 2022, the faculty members of the school have published 15 papers in the Chinese Social Science Citation Index (CSSCI) and other authoritative academic journals. 2 papers written by the faculty members can be found in theConference Proceedings Citation Index (CPCI)/Index to Scientific & Technical Proceedings (ISTP).They have also published 8 monographs and edited 5 textbooks. The faculty membershave won 1 Third Prize of National Education Science Outstanding Achievement, 5 Second Prizes and 1 Third Prize of Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award of Liaoning Province, and 1 First Prize of Teaching Achievement of Liaoning Province.
The faculty members have also undertaken 2 general projects of education funded by the National Social Science Fund, 2 key projects of the Ministry of Education, 1 project of Humanities and Social Science of the Ministry of Education, 24 provincial-level projects, 6 projects commissioned by the National Education Advisory Commission. Among the courses offered, 2 have been assessed as Provincial Demonstration Courses. The “Three Practices” practice teaching mode, the “Completely Independent College System” management mode and the “Five Platforms” training mode of master of education are the first of their kind in our country. The faculty members won3 prizes (the Special Prize, First Prize and Second Prize) of Excellent Teaching Achievements granted by the National Education Advisory Commission. They also won2First Prizes of Liaoning Provincial Excellent PostgraduateTeaching Achievement. The MEGS has 3“National Demonstration Bases for Joint Training of Master of Education”, and 12 teaching cases designed by the faculty members have been selected into the library of China Professional Degree Teaching Case Centre. The school has also 1 Key Research Base of Education Science Planning of Liaoning Province.
V. International Exchange and Cooperation
For six consecutive years, the MEGS has sent students to Urbana University and the University of Missouri in St. Louis in the United States for exchange and investigation. The school jointly trains 14 doctors of education with University of Missouri at St. Louis, USA. In 2021, they participated in 4 academic conferences in the United States and 9 people gave keynote reports.
